1988

Humble Beginnings, Pioneering Endeavour, and an Indomitable Spirit!

Mr. Gautam Adani began his career as a diamond sorter in 1978, which sparked his entrepreneurial journey. He then founded Adani Exports in 1988, marking the start of a multifaceted global conglomerate.

1988 Adani Exports Takes Roots in Gujarat

Mr. Gautam Adani established Adani Exports that deals in agricultural commodities and power in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

1994-1999

Share Market Milestones, Infrastructure Innovation, and Growth Trajectories

Adani Enterprises Ltd listed on the BSE and NSE, quickly grew into a major player. The company transformed Mundra into a major port, expanded into power with Adani Power, and diversified into natural resources management and FMCG with Adani Wilmar.

1994 Adani Enterprises Ltd Gets Listed on the Bourses

Adani Enterprises Ltd, formerly Adani Exports, listed on the BSE and NSE on November 1, 1994. The IPO was oversubscribed 25 times at Rs 150/share.

In the same year, the Adani Group gets approval from Gujarat Maritime Board for setting up a captive jetty in Mundra.

1995 Turning Childhood Dream into Reality

Inspired by Kandla port, Mr. Adani transformed Mundra into a leading port. Today, it’s a major economic gateway with robust multimodal connectivity.

1996 Power of Adjacencies

  • Mr. Adani’s ability of integrating assets drove expansion, starting with the Mundra jetty, leading to the port and the creation of Adani Power.
  • He established the Shri Shantilal Bhudarmal Adani Charitable Trust in honour of his late parents to support the underprivileged.

1998 Expanding Horizons

  • In 10 years, Adani Exports became top net foreign exchange earner in the country and the largest private sector Superstar Trading House in India.
  • At Adani's Mundra port, multipurpose berths 1 and 2 began operations with MT Alpha-2, a small tanker; the first ship to anchor there.

1999 Forward March

  • The Group advanced with new ventures, commencing Integrated Resource Management (IRM) for natural resource management, while Adani Exports began natural resource trading.
  • The Group diversifies and invests in FMCG sector, establishing Adani Wilmar Ltd in partnership with Wilmar International, Singapore.

2001-2010

Adani’s Pivotal Year of Growth, Philanthropy, and Global Venture

Adani Group touched new heights with Golden Status for Adani Exports, revolutionised trade with Mundra Port’s groundbreaking launch, and expanded into international markets. Our IPOs achieved success, while our contributions in philanthropy and education set new benchmarks.

2001 Setting Milestones

  • Adani Exports Ltd is accorded the Golden Status certificate, which makes it a Golden Superstar Trading House.
  • The year witnessed the beginning of commercial operations at Mundra Port and City Gas Distribution (CGD) business.
  • Mr. Adani's commitment to philanthropy was evident as the Group conducted relief and rescue work in Bhuj and other quake-affected areas.
  • He places significant emphasis on education, exemplified by the Group’s foundation of Adani DAV School in Mundra.

2002 Making History

  • Mundra Port’s single point mooring began operations, making history with the docking of the ‘MV Silver Clipper,’ India’s first capesize vessel, carrying 122,997 tonnes of Australian natural resources.

2003 Adding Another Feather to its Cap

Mundra Port’s container terminal 1 began operation with rail rake services, managing 80 rakes daily and connecting to the national rail network.

2006 Helping Hand

The Shree Shantilal Bhudarmal Adani Charitable Trust became Adani Foundation, focusing on holistic community development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

2007 The Bull Run

Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone are listed on the BSE and NSE, with the IPO receiving 116 times oversubscription.

Adani Agri Logistics Ltd (AALL) commissioned grain silos at seven locations, advancing its mission of ensuring food security in India.

2008 Of Acquisitions & Learnings

  • Adani Enterprises acquired Indonesia’s Bunyu natural resource mine, its first overseas mining project, to support India's rising natural resource demand.
  • The Adani Foundation started Adani Vidya Mandir in Ahmedabad to impart free education to children of weaker sections.

2009 More Power to Adani Power, People of Kutch

  • Adani Power Ltd is listed on stock exchange and IPO is subscribed 21x.
  • Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences (GAIMS) is inaugurated in Bhuj as Kutch’s first PPP medical college and multi-speciality hospital.

    2010 Beyond Borders

    • Adani started operations in Australia with mines, rail, and port projects in Queensland, led by the Carmichael mine and rail project.
    • Adani Foundation expanded to Tiroda, Maharashtra and Kawai, Rajasthan.
    • Adani Gas Private Ltd is rebranded as Adani Gas Ltd and converted into a public limited company.

    2011-2023

    The Era of Powerful Leadership and Expanding Horizons

    In this era, Adani Group accelerated growth through key acquisitions, new ventures, and a renewed brand. We’ve expanded our renewable energy capacity, led in power and port operations, and made significant infrastructure investments, positioning ourselves for future advancements.

    2011 New Beginnings

    • Adani Enterprises Ltd acquired the Carmichael mine in Australia, a thermal natural resource and rail project that will supply it to Asia and create thousands of jobs in Queensland.
    • Mundra Ports & SEZ is renamed as Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), paving the way for maritime milestones, while operations commenced at Dahej Port.

    2012 New Brand Identity

    The Group launched a new brand identity and logo reflecting values of trust and reliability, enhancing its reputation with stakeholders and consumers.


    The Group also introduced India’s largest power plant of 40 MW in Bitta, Gujarat, establishing APL Mundra as the leading private thermal power producer with 4,620 MW.

    • APSEZ commenced operations at Hazira Port, adding another port in its string of pearls along India’s coastline.
    • The Group’s CSR arm inaugurated Adani Vidya Mandir’s second school in Bhadreshwar near Mundra.

    2013 Leading from the Front

    • Mundra Port ascended to the top as India’s leading private port, while Vishakapatnam and Mormugao ports commenced operations.
    • The Kawai power plant became operational, meeting the region's energy needs.
    • Adani Enterprises Ltd commenced natural resource mining for a state-owned power utility in Rajasthan under the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) model.

    2014 The Power Factor

    Adani Power Ltd became India’s largest private thermal power generator with 9,280 MW.

    APSEZ acquired Dhamra Port in Odisha and won container terminal contract at Ennore port in Chennai.

    2015 Of Demergers & Mergers

    • Adani Enterprises Ltd completed the demerger of APSEZ, Adani Power Ltd, and Adani Transmission Ltd.
    • Adani Green Energy Ltd is established.
    • Adani Transmission (now Adani Energy Solutions Ltd) gets listed on the bourses.

    2016 Rise of Sunrise Sectors

    Moreover, Adani ventured into defence sector, partnering with Israel’s Elbit Systems for surveillance drones, marking a significant step in nation-building.

    The Group capitalised India’s renewable energy with a 648 MW solar plant, one of the world’s largest, in Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu.

    2017 Harnessing the Power of Green

    Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) listed on stock exchanges, became India’s largest and a global leader in utility-scale renewable energy.

    2018 More Demergers, Launches & JVs

    • Adani Green Energy and Adani Gas are demerged from Adani Enterprises Ltd and listed as separate entities on the stock exchange.
    • Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd (AEML) is launched.
    • Adani Gas became largest city gas distribution player.

    Adani Logistics Ltd and NYK Auto Logistics (India) Private Ltd announced a joint venture in rail logistics.

    APSEZ completed acquisition of Kattupalli Port, adding another port to its string of pearls.

    2019 Scaling New Heights

    The Group continued its forward march, scaling new heights. It emerged as second largest IRM player in the world.

    It ventured into sports with Adani Sportsline and won the inaugural boxing league.

    • Additionally, Adani Power completed acquisition of GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd.
    • Adani Ports became first Indian port operator to record 200 MMT cargo movement.

    2020 Reaching to the Sky

    • In a major development, Adani Gas entered 50:50 joint venture with Total Energies to create India's premier integrated gas utility.
    • The Group won a mandate to operate 6 airports, and started operations in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Thiruvananthapuram.
    • Adani Green Energy won contract for being the largest solar project in the world.

    APSEZ completed acquisition of Krishnapatnam Port.

    2021 Business Matters

    Adani Group partnered with EdgeConneX, USA to set up data centres to provide controlled and secure environment for data and digital information.

    Adani acquired 23.5% stake in Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport in Mumbai from GVK for operation management.

    • Adani Enterprises Ltd bagged India’s largest expressway project and receives LoA for Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh.
    • Adani Green signed world’s largest green PPA with SECI, ranked among world’s largest solar developers and renewable energy companies.

    APSEZ unlocked India’s eastern hinterland with Rs 6,200 crore acquisition of Gangavaram Port.

    2022 Flying High

    • Adani Group crossed $200 billion market cap.
    • Completed acquisition of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports.
    • Adani Port and Logistics acquired India’s largest marine services company Ocean Sparkle.
    • Adani Ports cargo volumes accelerated to 300 million metric tonnes.
    • Adani Group achieved financial closure of Navi Mumbai International Airport project.
    • International Holding Company announced investment of USD 2 billion in Adani Group’s Green Portfolio.
    • Adani Wilmar got listed, had a bumper opening.

    Adani Sportsline bought a cricket team for UAE T20 League.

    Adani Group acquired Holcim India’s cement business (Ambuja Cement and ACC), making it the biggest-ever acquisition in India’s infra and materials space at USD 10.5 billion.

    • Adani Green operationalised India’s first hybrid power plant in Rajasthan.
    • AMG Media Networks acquired NDTV.

    2023 Getting Bigger & Better

    • Adani Group pledged to grow 100 million trees by 2030 at the “Trillion Trees Platform” of the World Economic Forum.
    • Adani Ports cargo volumes crossed 300 MMT in just 329 days.

    Adani Ports & SEZ acquired Karaikal Port.

    • Ambuja Cement acquired Sanghi Cement.
    • Adani Group commissioned India's first transnational power project in Godda, Jharkhand, to supply power to Bangladesh.
    • Adani commissioned largest inter-regional 765 KV Warora-Kurnool Transmission Line.
    • AGEL operational wind generation capacity crossed 1 GW.
    • Adani Green’s operating renewable portfolio reached 8,024 MW, the largest in India.

    2024-2025

    Leading the Future with Courage, Trust, and Commitment

    Adani Group marked significant achievements with the launch of the Drishti 10 UAV, the acquisition of Gopalpur port, and new copper unit start-up. We’ve also surpassed 10,000 MW in renewable energy and opened the world’s largest renewable energy park, paving the way for future growth.

    2024 The Rise & Rise of Adani

    Adani Defence & Aerospace opened our first indigenously manufactured Drishti 10 UAV.

    • APSEZ acquired Gopalpur port in Odisha.
    • Adani Green began generation from the world’s largest renewable energy park in Khavda, Gujarat.
    • Adani Defence & Aerospace inaugurated South Asia’s largest ammunition and missiles complex in Kanpur.
    • Adani’s copper unit in Mundra began operations.
    • Adani Green Energy became India's first to surpass 10,000 MW renewable energy production.

    Adani Green sponsored Green Revolution: The Adani Green Energy Gallery at London Science Museum.

    The inaugural “Amazing Adanians” talent show spotlighted extraordinary talents from employees and families, culminating in a thrilling multi-stage contest judged by Shibani Kashyap, Sanam Johar, and Abhijit Pohankar.

    Adani Airport Holdings handled over 1 million tonnes of cargo in FY24, marking 7% growth YoY and 30.1% market share. Of this, 65% was international cargo, showing 9% annual growth.

    Mr Adani announced a $100-billion investment in green energy and manufacturing, aiming to produce the world’s cheapest green electron and build India’s largest renewable park and AI-powered green data centers.

    At Adani Enterprises' 30th-anniversary AGM, Mr Adani hailed India as a stabiliser, celebrating the company’s remarkable rise from its 1994 IPO through challenges overcome by steadfast perseverance.

    The arrival of mother ship San Fernando at Adani’s Vizhinjam International Seaport marks India’s entry into global transshipment, launching the nation’s first automated deepwater port with world-class infrastructure and strategic global connectivity.

    Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay visited Adani’s Khavda and Mundra sites to explore collaboration. Inspired by Adani’s renewable vision, the visit strengthened Indo-Bhutan ties and paved the way for sustainable future partnerships.

    AGEL operationalised 250 MW wind capacity at Khavda, taking total to 2,250 MW. Powered by 5.2 MW turbines, it advances India’s clean energy leadership and supports 16.1 million homes annually.

    Adani Ports acquired 80% in Astro for $185 million, adding 26 offshore vessels and Tier-1 clients, expanding its global marine footprint and fleet to 168 vessels across key regions.

    Mr Adani announced the launch of Adani’s Global Capability Centre (GCC), a transformative step to drive efficiency, innovation and excellence, marking a new chapter in the Group’s growth journey.

    Adani Group is proud to be listed among TIME’s World’s Best Companies 2024, recognised for employee satisfaction, revenue growth and sustainability—making it the only Indian infrastructure firm on this prestigious global list.

    Ambuja Cements became the first global cement maker to join Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) advancing its Net Zero by 2050 goal with Rs 10,000 crore green energy investments and strategic decarbonisation initiatives.

    Mundra Port marked its 25th anniversary with a commemorative postal stamp, celebrating its transformation into India’s largest port and its significant socio-economic contributions, unveiled on World Post Day by Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

    Adani and Google partnered to power Google’s India operations with clean energy from Adani’s solar-wind hybrid project at Khavda, supporting 24x7 carbon-free energy and advancing shared sustainability goals.

    Adani Group’s new “Hum Karke Dikhate Hain” campaign put a spotlight on real human stories, showcasing how infrastructure projects transform lives—starting with a film about clean energy lighting up a rural village through wind power.

    2025 Mighty Yet Humble

    Adani Group and ISKCON served Mahaprasad to 50 lakh devotees at Maha Kumbh 2025. Mr Adani met Guru Prasad Swami Ji, reaffirming their shared commitment to selfless service and cultural heritage.

    Ahead of his wedding, Jeet Adani launched ‘Mangal Seva’ to support 500 newly married women with disabilities annually, reflecting the Adani family’s deep commitment to service, dignity and inclusive philanthropy.

    Mr Adani honoured his vow of a simple wedding for son Jeet by donating Rs 10,000 crore to social causes, while acknowledging his wife Dr Priti Adani’s pivotal role in shaping Jeet’s journey.

    The Adani Foundation and GEMS Education announced the establishment of 20+ world-class, affordable schools across India. The first such institution opened in Lucknow in April 2025. These proposed institutions have earmarked 30% CBSE seats free for underprivileged children—empowering inclusive, quality education for all.

    Adani Ports started operations at Colombo West International Terminal, a $800-million automated deep-water facility set to boost Sri Lanka’s maritime status and regional trade, handling 3.2M TEUs (twenty feet equivalent units) annually.

    APSEZ handled a record 450.2 MMT cargo in FY25, with Mundra becoming India’s first port to cross 200 million metric tonnes (MMT) annually, marking major progress toward the 1 billion metric tonnes (MT) target by 2030.
