Our Businesses

We are starting the most exciting phase of our development so far: creating an international and integrated infrastructure business. This has three components: resources, logistics and energy. Each is successful in its own right and we estimate that the three together will account for more than 90% of our revenues in the next decade. For resources and logistics, half our revenue will come from integrated operations.

Statistics about the economic context and growth are important. But they risk missing the bigger picture: we are here for our customers’ customers. Our mines, ports and power plants help people to work, shop, cook, read and go about improving their daily lives.

Number one coal importer in India

For years India has faced challenges in obtaining the natural resources necessary for growth. At Adani, we are well placed to help overcome those challenges.

We are developing and operating mines in India, Indonesia and Australia as well as importing and trading coal from many other countries. Apart from India, we have already started supplying coal to China and we aim to spread wings to Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, etc., in 2014-15. We also have extensive interest in Oil and Gas exploration.

Our extractive capacity of thermal coal has increased from 4 MMT in 2014 and we aim to extract 200 MMT per annum by 2020, making Adani one of the largest mining groups in the world.

  • Adani Enterprises

Adani Enterprises Limited is the flagship entity of the Adani group which was the erstwhile adani Exports Limited and was the first of the listed companies. Adani Enterprises started as a trading firm dealing in myriad commodities. Over a period of time, coal became its main stay and after it emerged as India’s leading coal importer, it made forays into multiple sectors as forward and backward integration. The companies that emerged hence were Adani Ports and special Economic Zone Limited and Adani Power and recently Adani Transmission Limited.

Among other businesses, this led Adani Enterprises into City Gas distribution through the supply of PNG and CNG, Bunkering business at various ports in the East and West coasts, Coal mining and pioneering as Mine Developers and Operators (MDO) for many state electricity public sector units who were allocated captive coal blocks; and last but not the least, Solar Energy generation through large solar power plants.

Number one private port in India

95% of India’s international trade comes through its sea ports. The fastest growing ports are run privately like Mundra, which we own and operate.

Mundra benefits from deep draft, best-in-class infrastructure and SEZ status. It is connected via road, railway and pipelines to the economic heartlands of North and West India. Today, it has emerged as the largest commercial port of the country.

We are present in seven port locations (Dahej, Dhamra, Ennore, Hazira, Murmugao, Vishakapatnam, Tuna-off Tekra, near Kandla) in India, apart from Mundra. We aim to increase the annual cargo handled from our ports in India to 200 MMT by 2020.

  • Adani Ports

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone is the seamless integration of three verticals consisting of Ports, Logistics and Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The company has pan India presence in nine locations with Mundra port in the Gulf of Kachchh as the flagship which is also India’s largest commercial port.

We have built India’s largest port company with our USP of deep draft ports having large scale mechanisation. All Adani ports have excellent multi-modal connectivity across the Indian subcontinent. The infrastructure on all Adani ports is based on high-tech systems and processes with world class operational benchmarks.

Adani Logistics Limited (ALL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZL). APSEZ has accrued advantages of a deep draft seaport, logistical connectivity and aligned infrastructure, thereby positioning itself as the most preferred maritime gateway for diversified businesses.

By investing in tightly integrated assets we aim to reduce bottlenecks in the overall logistics value chain thereby benefiting our customers on multiple dimensions especially time and cost. Our Inland Container Depots help ports expand their hinterland connectivity while simultaneously reducing their congestion problem. Our private rakes and strategic alliances help in seamless pan-India cargo movement while our Contract Logistics solutions help customer's deliver reliable first mile - last mile experience.

Number one single location coal fired private power producer in India

India’s national enterprises have struggled to meet the rising demand for energy.

Estimates suggest that by 2020 the private sector will account for 40% of electricity generation, with Adani being the largest player with eight plants and 20,000 MW capacity. This compares to our current capacity of10, 440 MW.

Our coal mining and logistics operations place us in a commanding position. More than 75% of our electricity is pre-sold in long-term arrangements, leaving us free to trade the balance wherever the best profits are to be found.

Adani's significant investments in Australia encompass its port, rail and mine projects - the port at Abbot Point, the planned 388km rail link in North Galilee Basin, and the Carmichael mine in Central Queensland.

The port at Abbot Point, under a 99 year lease from the state (Queensland) government, has been operational for thirty years, and will be expanded to facilitate increased export volumes to India and elsewhere in Asia.

The North Galilee Basin Rail, Queensland's first standard gauge rail, will deliver significant cost advantages over legacy rail solutions in central Queensland, helping to lower the cost base of proposed mines that are central to opening up the Galilee Basin, while delivering a vital link to the only port in the region with significant expansion capacity.

The mine at Carmichael, is a core component of Adani's plans for delivering energy security in India, as well as pursing export opportunities in other Asian markets. An 11bn tonne resource, the high caloric content, low ash and low sulphur coal will be in the first quartile of the global cost curve, delivering affordable energy to a number of markets while also helping underpin India's energy security.

  • Adani Mining

The Carmichael coal, railway and port project includes building Australia’s largest thermal coal mine in the north Galilee Basin approximately 160km north-west of Clermont in Central Queensland, linked by a new 388 km standard gauge rail line to a new terminal at Abbot Point Port near Bowen. The combined mine, rail and port operations will provide over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and supply opportunities for local businesses.
